Harry & I have been to northern Italy a handful of times collectively. Sometimes together, other times apart. It is such a beautiful part of the world, and really as wonderful as you probably imagine. Because we’ve visited a lot, we recommend doing at least these 10 things listed below.

While in Verona

1. Hike to a great view.

There’s a lot to do in Verona. One of Lauren’s favorite spots in the world is pictured above in Verona. Hikes to views like these are easy to come by and provide amazing views of the city.

2. Visit Juliet’s statue and balcony

Still owned by the Capulet family, you can pay to go to the top of Juliet’s balcony. We have never paid to go up because you get such a great view in the square. There are love locks and Juliet’s statue in the square, as well. Legend has it that if you touch Juliet’s breast you’ll have luck in love. Lauren did in 2014 and met Harry a few months later. If you ask her, the legend is true.

3. Visit the Arena di Verona

This Roman amphitheater was built in the first century A.D. you can pay a small fee to enter and explore the ancient architecture. There are often operas performed here now, and going to one would be a very neat experience we’re sure.

4. Eat a Gelato

Gelato is similar to ice cream and native to Italy. The sweet treat typically comes in a small serving size, and costs only a few Euros. Gelato comes in many flavors, so there’s definitely a flavor for you!

While in Venice

5. Take a Gondola Ride

Gondola rides are as fun as they sound. They allow you to have a private boat tour of the Venetian canals. It’s a great way to see views of the city and the historic sites.

6. Visit the Realto Bridge

The Realto Bridge was built in the 12th Century. This pedestrian bridge is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Venice.

7. Have a Spritz

An Aperol Spritz is a drink native to northern Italy. It’s a delicious mix of sweet and tart flavors. Northern Italy is the cheapest place in the world we’ve found the yummy cocktail.

8. Have a Bellini

Once again, the peach juice+champagne drink originated in Venice. You can buy them in a pre-packaged form, or have them freshly made.

Outside of the big cities

9. Visit a Winery

Soave winery is a great place to visit! Located in a castle near Vicenza, Italy, you can taste a lot of great vino & buy it at a wholesale price. Lauren’s favorite is the Soave Classico white wine.

10. Visit Lake Garda

Lake Garda is a place that has completely stolen the hearts of Lauren and Harry. It’s amazing blue color seems unreal, and there’s a plethora of activities for everyone! Whether you want to sunbathe, eat with a view, kayak, windsurf, you name it- it’s available at Lake Garda. While neither of us have been to Lake Como, we think of Lake Garda as the less-touristy place you will want to be!

We hope you have found some things you feel you must-do in Northern Italy! Remember to subscribe to our blog, follow us on Instagram and Facebook, and join our Facebook Group if you like what you see.
