Transportation in Taormina, Sicily

So you want to go to Taormina, but you’re not sure how to get around. Let us help you by simplifying 3 easy options available to you!

Cable Car

Whether you’re staying near the Isola Bella beach like we did, or staying in the city center, the Taormina Cable Car is a great option to get to and from both places. The cable car runs every 15 minutes and has a very convenient schedule, which can be found on the website. You can buy several ticket options at an affordable price ranging from 3 Euro for a one way pass up to a 100 Euro monthly pass. Pricing options differ based on residency.

Bus

Perhaps you want to explore the areas around Taormina, or get from the Catania airport to Taormina. Either way the bus is a great option. The bus system has a very user-friendly website to help you determine fares, times, and more. I would suggest opening the website in Google Chrome so that you can translate the site to English for easier use. The bus drivers are very confident and drive at an efficient speed to get you to and from your destination.

Rent a Car

This is the option we opted for. We rented the car at the Catania airport because it made traveling with our group more manageable & we got an affordable rate on a car. You should note that in Sicily (like most of Europe) you will be charged more for renting an automatic car. Since Harry knows how to drive a stick shift this wasn’t an obstacle for us. Renting a car is great because you can travel at your leisure; however, you MUST be a confident driver to drive in Sicily. The drivers weave in and out of traffic, there are winding curves, and the buses drive very fast down narrow roads. Driving in Sicily is not for the faint of heart. We are glad we chose this option, though.
