5 Tips for Traveling to Europe
1. Plan a Realistic Budget.
You will want to spend a substantial amount of money because there is so much to see, eat, drink, and experience. We recommend adding maybe €200 to your budget to account for the things that might come up that you simply won’t want to miss!
2. Don’t Expect Everyone to Speak English.
While the majority of Europeans do speak English, it’s ignorant to assume they would. There are many Europeans who don’t, or who might speak limited English. It’s always a great travel practice to learn key phrases of any country you visit. They really appreciate the effort!
3. Respect Other Cultures.
You are traveling to a new continent! You should expect the cultures to be different. Europe is a continent, so some cultures may be similar to what you’re used to, while others may not. Europe is more laidback, so you may find some things offensive (like a postcard with a naked person on it). They mean it in good fun and you should take it in stride. Also, research the customs regarding restaurant tips before traveling abroad!
4. Bring your College ID.
If you still have your college ID, we recommend you take it with you. Honestly, if it doesn’t have an expiration date & your twenties-early thirties they won’t question you. The deals can’t be beat & are available at most historic sites abroad.
5. Enjoy Yourself and Take it all in.
Most places in Europe are fairly laid back compared to the hustle and bustle of America. Europeans have a saying that, “Europeans work to live while Americans live to work.” Take that for what it is and slow down to soak up the experiences!
With that said we hope you sit back, enjoy your Weihenstephan, Fullers, Sangria, or Gluhwein & marvel at the wonderful continent beneath your feet!
