3 Days in Okrug, Croatia Itinerary
Lauren embarked on a 10 day girls’ Eurotrip with Harry’s mum and sister. Before we began our journey, we met in London to pick up Harry’s sister, Becky. As mentioned in an earlier post, she studied abroad at Oxford University. Harry’s mom and I took the Tube, London’s train system, from London Heathrow Airport to Kings Cross Station. After picking up Becky, we took the Gatwick Express train to Gatwick Airport and stayed the night at the Travelodge airport hotel. We found that the hotel room was lacking things such as soap, and our air conditioning had broken during the night. At the time, London was experiencing a heatwave which made this unbearable. I would suggest staying at a different airport hotel in the future.
The next morning we got up early to take a taxi to the airport. We flew from London Gatwick Airport to Split, Croatia on Easyjet. Flying with Easyjet airlines is very inexpensive, but they are very particular about the amount of luggage you bring. You are limited to one bag only as your carry-on. This meant that I had to put my very small purse inside my carry-on luggage and stow it away during the flight.
After arriving at Split Airport in Croatia, we took a taxi to our airbnb. We chose to stay in a town outside of Trogir called Okrug. The ride from the airport was about 20 minutes. We were met by our wonderful airbnb hosts who happen to live in the house next door to the apartment we rented out. They were extremely sweet and helpful! After dumping our luggage, we changed into our swimsuits and headed to the beach! The location of Okrug is great because it’s a 20 minute walk to the city of Trogir.
Beach Guide: Okrug
The beach in Okrug is very beautiful with crystal clear water and pebbly shores. To the left of the beach is a port for boats, and all along the coast are beach bars, restaurants, ice cream shops, and more. I was amazed at how underdeveloped the town was. It gave the essence of being in a secret hideaway (much needed since I’ve been working nonstop on my master’s program course work). The town is also filled with families from all over the world. I felt very safe!
We found a great beach bar called Porto. This is where we rented beach chairs and an umbrella from here because it offered the cheapest price, 20 Kruna.
Exploring & Night Life
If you feel like exploring the streets of a Mediterranean town, take a short walk to the city of Trogir. This is one of Croatia’s most interesting cities. It feels like you are walking through a fairy tale. You get amazing views of sailboats, old buildings, and gorgeous streets. There are endless options for places to eat. Although we didn’t attend, we saw a lot of night clubs. One day we took a 6 hour boat excursion to 3 different locations. One of the amazing locations was the Blue Lagoon! Definitely bring a snorkel if you are interested in this activity. One great thing about this boat ride is that drink and lunch was included.
If you have more questions about Okrug, leave a comment below. I would definitely suggest this trip to families, 20-somethings, everyone!
Sincerely,
