Hey travelers!

We know you are like us & love this beautiful planet so much that you want to see every inch of it; but have you ever stopped yourself to think if you’re helping or hurting the planet in your daily life? This blog post is a resource to help you switch up daily habits to reduce your carbon footprint and help protect our environment.

Use a Reusable Water Bottle

According to earthday.org, using a reusable water bottle can save up to over 150 plastic bottles each year per person! That is an insane amount of plastic, most of which cannot be recycled or reused. By using a reusable water bottle you are helping keep microplastics out of the water & landfills from filling up with harmful chemicals found in the plastic. One of my favorite reusable water bottles is this one. It keeps drinks cold and holds a lot of water. It’s perfect for the gym, flights, or to bring to work.

Use Reusable Grocery Bags

Some people think it’s good enough to repurpose plastic grocery bags as trash bags, and while that is a great way to reuse them, it’s not a sustainable move. Remember what I said about plastics ending up in oceans? This is a very common occurrence with plastic grocery bags. Another concern is that marine life, such as sea turtles, eat the plastic bags when they mistake them for jellyfish. This mistake often costs them their lives. Instead of using a plastic grocery bag, use reusable canvas bags. I love to keep some in the trunk of my car to avoid forgetting them when I swing by the store in a pinch.

Use Reusable Food Storage Containers

I think you’re starting to see the trend here…avoid unnecessary plastics. With that said, Styrofoam is just as bad. When you go out to eat, you often want to take leftovers home. Typically restaurants give you a Styrofoam container to use. I encourage you to avoid this and bring your own reusable food storage containers. Most restaurants will have no problem with you doing this. I find my Pyrex containers to be extremely durable and perfect for storing take out, taking food to work for lunch, or saving leftovers at home. Don’t limit yourself to food storage containers that are glass. You can get reusable silicone zip lock bags for storing the smaller food items in your refrigerator.
