The Top Reasons You Should Take a Boat Tour in Split, Croatia
We love Croatia! There’s really no place on Earth quite like it. While Split is a popular tourist destination for many European and American travelers, it still remains uncrowded compared to big cities like Rome and Vienna. It is easy to relax while strolling along the streets, listening to music in the square, sunbathing on the beach, or swimming in the Adriatic Sea. You could easily spend your entire holiday in Split alone; however, we think you should experience some of the other Croatian islands. The best way to do that is by boat!
Now chartering your own yacht for the holiday would be ideal, but if you’ve booked your stay in Split you can easily access boats for a day trip! To do this you can simply walk along the harbor or find a company within the square. We chose to use the same company Harry used the year before because he remembered their service was excellent. We were not disappointed!
We found the Sugaman Tours office located in the square and compared the prices with that of other companies we had placed inquiries with. The price of the tour was comparable to other companies and included 12 hours of touring the Croatian islands and a complimentary wine tasting. The woman who usually gives the wine tasting was sick, so we didn’t get to experience that, but the crew did provide us with wine to drink aboard the boat. They also provided beer and water. We would recommend you bring some of your own , though, just in case they were to run out.
The boat ride included a 2.5 hour trip to the island of Biševo where the Blue Cave is located. As expected when sailing in the open ocean, the swells got pretty large. It was quite an adventure to say the least. Once we arrived at our first stop, we boarded a smaller boat with a different Croatian tour guide. We entered the cave and learned all about how the light causes the water to look so blue. It was purely spectacular!
Note: There are no bathrooms aboard the charter boat, so this is a location where bathrooms are available.
The next stop was the Green Cave. We didn’t go in and explore the Green Cave, but we did learn about its history and the science behind its color.
The boat tour continued to The Blue Lagoon. We wish we would’ve taken more pictures to share the beauty of this place, but we were so caught up in the moment that we didn’t. Here we were given masks provided by the Sugaman Tour crew and had time to swim and relax aboard the boat. There were so many fish! The water was relaxing, and the experience felt surreal. If we had only come to this location on the boat tour, it still would’ve been worth it!
Stop number four was Pakleni Otoci. This is where we chose to grab lunch. The tour staff made us reservations if we wanted them for a restaurant overlooking the water. The service was quick and the food was delicious! While the tour will make your reservations, you are expected to buy your lunch. If you didn’t want to eat lunch here, you could at the final stop.
The final stop was Hvar Town. This was a really cool town with a lot of history! There were so many sailboats in the harbor and our tour allowed us plenty of time to explore the city! We walked up a large number of steps to reach the Fortress. It cost a small fee to enter, but the views made it worth it. There is also a cafe and toilets within the Fortress if needed. This is where we restocked on water.
This is when the wine tasting would’ve occurred, but as we stated earlier, it was canceled the day of our trip. We boarded the boat and were given some Croatian wine before heading back off to Split. The ride back was much smoother than the morning ride out because the wind had calmed. Being able to explore these beautiful hotspots in Croatia made our appreciation for this beautiful place grow even more!
Maybe a full 12 hour tour isn’t the best option for you on your trip. No worries! Check out this half day boat tour from Split to Trogir.
